Floating Shelf Q & A

Everything you need to know about our solid wood floating shelves.

How much weight can the shelves hold?

Our shelves mount directly into wall studs using heavy-duty concealed steel brackets and are designed to hold real, everyday weight like books, dishes, and decor. When installed properly, they perform like permanent furniture.

Are these shelves solid wood or hollow?

Solid wood. Always.

Each shelf is crafted from one-piece hardwood — never hollow construction, MDF, plywood, or veneer wraps.

Do the shelves mount into studs?

Yes.

For maximum strength and stability, shelves are designed to mount directly into wall studs.

Will the wood color and grain match the photos exactly?

No two boards are identical — and that’s the beauty of real wood. Natural color and grain variation means every shelf is unique.

Do you offer custom sizes?

Yes.

If you need a custom length or depth, contact us and we’re happy to help.

What finish do you use?

We finish every shelf with Rubio Monocoat, a premium hardwax oil finish that protects the wood while keeping a natural, matte look and feel. It enhances the grain, resists everyday wear, and is easy to maintain over time.

Can I install them myself?

Most customers install them with basic tools. For longer or heavier shelves, professional installation is optional but recommended.

Where are the shelves made?

Every shelf is handcrafted in our New Jersey workshop by Talmo Custom Builds.

How long does shipping take?

All shelves are built to order in our New Jersey workshop. Orders typically ship within 1–3 weeks.

What hardware is included?

Every shelf includes professional-grade concealed steel mounting hardware (Sheppard™ brackets) and installation instructions. All hardware is completely hidden once installed for a true floating look.

Do you combine shipping for multiple shelves?

Yes.

Multiple shelves ship together whenever possible, and combined shipping is automatically calculated at checkout.
